Overview: Climate change is a defining challenge for organizations and one that requires urgent action, especially as Saudi Arabia and the world strive for ambitious climate goals (the Kingdom has announced a target of net-zero emissions by 2060). BDO offers end-to-end climate action solutions to help clients measure, manage, and mitigate their climate impact while building resilience to climate-related risks. We start with carbon accounting, quantifying your greenhouse gas emissions (Scopes 1, 2, and 3) in line with the GHG Protocol, and supporting disclosures such as CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) reporting, so stakeholders understand your carbon footprint. We conduct climate risk and vulnerability assessments, including scenario analysis and modeling of physical and transition risks, to evaluate how climate change (e.g. extreme weather, regulatory changes) could affect your operations and supply chains. Our team guides you in implementing the TCFD recommendations and preparing TCFD-aligned reports that detail the financial impacts of climate risks and opportunities on your business.
We work with you to develop and execute Low-Carbon Transition (LCT) strategies, practical roadmaps to reduce emissions in line with science-based targets and national/international commitments. This includes setting targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), defining net-zero pathways and interim milestones, and identifying emissions reduction projects (energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, process innovations, etc.). We advise on Internal Carbon Pricing (ICP) mechanisms to internalize the cost of carbon in decision-making. Where emissions cannot be eliminated immediately, we explore decarbonization through offsets – building a portfolio of high-quality carbon credits or nature-based solutions to neutralize remaining emissions, as part of a credible net-zero strategy. Our climate services also extend to carbon markets and financing: we help clients monetize carbon assets (e.g. selling carbon credits from over-achievement of targets or participating in emerging regional carbon trading schemes) and access green financing opportunities for climate projects. Additionally, we support climate policy advocacy, partnering with industry groups and government bodies to shape policies and incentives that facilitate low-carbon growth. For public sector clients, we assist with Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) implementation, translating climate pledges into actionable programs and tracking progress. Overall, our climate action solutions enable organizations to not only comply with evolving climate regulations but to become leaders in the transition to a net-zero, climate-resilient economy.
